Udaya is a Sanskrit word meaning 'rising sun'.
Udaya's first home was in the little town of Mbombela. Friends would come together with flasks of coffee, rusks, and their furry friends, and we would climb the little rocky koppie to watch the sunrise over the mountains, farms, and bushveld.
Mpumalanga means "place where the sun rises" and so Udaya fit perfectly in its first home.
Since Covid-19, our studio in the koppie moved to its virtual home in the cloud and expanded to include teachers and students from all over South Africa.
Meet Your Teachers
Hi lovely humans, I’m Cait!
I’m a 500+ hour certified yoga teacher and trainer.
I opened Udaya Yoga (formerly Meraki Yoga) in 2017. Originally situated in Somerset West, I focused on private yoga sessions and specialized classes for seniors and kids. I moved to Nelspruit in 2018 where the studio found its first proper home.
I started practicing yoga at 16 years old as a way to manage anxiety and insomnia. I soon fell in love with the practice and the fluid movement that connects with the breath and increases awareness of the patterns of the mind.
At 19, I completed my first yoga teacher training in Johannesburg. I had no intention of teaching yoga full-time, but my love of the practice and my passion for teaching kept bringing me back to my mat. Since then, I’ve gone on to complete other courses in Ayurveda, yoga therapy, and meditation, as well as my advanced yoga teacher training.
I teach Vinyasa, Hatha, Restorative, and Ashtanga yoga but I love the creativity and the flow that the Vinyasa style offers. My classes are typically gentle but with a challenge.
Yoga has become a cornerstone in my life, and it’s led me to other passions that I never would have discovered without the practice.
